Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Sales of the local distributor of Hyundai vehicles posted flat sales in April compared to a year ago amid a decline in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment.

Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) said in a statement yesterday it sold a total of 1,646 units in April, up two percent from the 1,607 units in the same month last year.

LCV sales were down seven percent to 600 units in April from 645 units in the same month in 2013.

Passenger car (PC) sales, meanwhile, climbed nine percent to 1,046 units in April from the previous year’s 962 units.

Contributing to the growth in PC sales was the Eon which had total sales of 491 units for the month, 149 percent higher year-on-year.

Strong demand was also seen for the Accent which posted a 31 percent year-on-year uptick in sales to reach 451 units in April.

For the January to April period, HARI’s sales reached 7,629 units, an increase of one percent from 7,558 units in the comparable period a year ago.

LCV sales fell 19 percent to 2,579 units in the first four months of the year from 3,192 units in the same period last year.

On the other hand, PC sales grew 16 percent to 5,050 units as of end-April from 4,366 units in the same period in the previous year.
