BOC lifts import suspension vs. Globe
MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Customs (BOC) lifted its suspension on the accreditation on listed Globe Telecom, restoring Globe's import activities.
"We welcome the Bureau of Customs' decision lifting the suspension order on Globe. The previous suspension was merely a misinterpretation of our brokers of the rules with regard to the filing of application of import permits,†said lawyer Froilan Castelo, Globe General Legal Counsel. The decision was issued by Customs Deputy Commissioner Agaton Teodoro Uvero.
Castelo said the BOC requires brokers to describe imports in detail. However, the online form provides limited number of characters (26 characters) to describe the goods imported. To comply with this requirement, Globe usually provides supporting document as separate attachments as it would be impossible to put all item descriptions in the online form, he said.
Castelo added that all imports of telecom equipment, parts and accessories pass through the National Telecommunications Commission for the issuance of certificate of import and permit to purchase with supporting documents itemizing all goods to be imported.
Globe was recognized as the Top 16th importer contributing P2 billion to the bureau’s actual cash collection in 2012.
