Convergys expands Phl presence

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Convergys Corp. is expanding its presence in the Philippines by hiring additional employees this year to beef up its existing 55,000-workforce.

“We are excited to continue to realize our growth plans set for the year. We are looking at hiring more than 6,000 additional employees this year,” Convergys country manager Ivic Mueco said yesterday.

The company has just completed the acquisition of Stream Global Services Inc., which also provides customer management services.

With the recent acquisition, Convergys now has 55,000 employees in the Philippines spread across 34 operating sites.

Prior to the acquisition, Convergys has been employing 35,000 workers nationwide and its Philippine unit is the largest in the world.

Convergys president and chief executive officer Andrea Ayers said the company will be increasing its workforce by expanding the capacity of existing facilities and opening new offices.

“We’ve been building in the Philippines for the past years…We will expand seats and open new sites,” she said.

Mueco said the company is set to open a newsite with 100 seats at the UP Techno Hub in Quezon City, as well as a new office in Baguio City.

Mueco also said the decision to open facilities in new sites will depend on the availability of talent.

“Talent pool is what we consider for expansion,” she said.

The business process outscourcing giant started its operations in the Philippines by opening a contact center in 2003.

Ohio-based Convergys has 125,000 employees working in 150 locations in 31 countries, speaking 47 languages.
