UK’s Dyson sets up shop in Phl

MANILA, Philippines - British home appliance maker Dyson has set up shop in the Philippines, encouraged by the Filipino consumer’s desire for high performing and durable products.

During the company’s official launch in Taguig yesterday, Dyson senior communications manager Roanna Mottershead said the company plans to put up eight stores within the year, a mixture of pop up and concept stores.

Dyson manufactures high performance vacuum cleaners and bladeless fans, heaters and hand dryers in its manufacturing facilities in Singapore and Malaysia.

The company also sells machines in 67 countries including Japan, China, Russia, Taiwan, South Korea, and Hong Kong, where its regional hub is located.

“Filipinos are now willing to invest in things that last for a long time and Dyson appliances can last for 10 years or more, “ said Mottershead.

She said that as the brand expands its reach in Asia, it also looking at the possibility of putting up a manufacturing facility in the Philippines.

“As we keep growing, we have to increase out manufacturing so it is also something that we will evaluate,” said Mottershead. “And we will be in the Philippines for a long time.”

Dyson appliances have been sold in Rustan’s Makati since last November. Soon to open are shops in Century City Mall, Robinsons Magnolia and Robinsons Place Manila.

“The market is responding well. For a new brand we are doing very well,” said Jasper Golangco, marketing director of Dyson’s exclusive distributor White Planet Inc.

Dyson holds over 3,000 patents and patent applications worldwide for 500 inventions.
