Imported car sales up 21.6 pct in January

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Imported vehicles sold in the Philippines rose by 21.6 percent on year to 3,191 units in January, local distributors said today.

The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, Inc. ( AVID) said in a report that sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles posted double-digit increases.

Distributors sold 1,679 units of passenger cars and 1,512 units of light commercial vehicles in January.

AVID said sales in 2014 would remain robust owing to expectations that the country's economy will sustain its growth momentum this year.

Last year, distributors of imported vehicles sold 31,399 units, 10.6 percent higher than their sales in 2012.
