MANILA, Philippines - Shell companies in the Philippines (SciP) bagged numerous top awards in the 46th National Industrial Safety Convention held recently by the Industrial Safety Division of the Safety Organization of the Philippines Inc. (SOPI).
The awards strongly affirm Shell’s unwavering commitment to leadership in health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) principles and best practices in business.
“With safety as our license to operate, we make sure that we exert the most intensive efforts to reduce our social and environmental impacts in areas where we operate,†stated Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation’s (PSPC) HSSE manager Arsenio Isidro.
Isidro was also one of the keynote speakers in the convention, with the theme “Strategy Towards Exceptional Practices (STEP) on Occupational Safety, Health and Environment.â€
“Our operations in all our facilities are guided by Shell’s inherent culture of always prioritizing the safety and health of people and the environment,†added Isidro on Shell’s standard operations in its terminals, depots, stations, and areas of operation.
SOPI is a non-profit, non-government, national public service organization committed to protecting lives and promoting health. It also aims to give recognition to deserving SOPI members in their efforts to provide and maintain a safe and healthy workplace, achieve Zero Lost Time Accident Record, or achieve substantial reduction in accidents and injuries in their respective companies.
Shell’s Pandacan Depots Services Inc. received the Safety Award of Excellence for its outstanding safety records, with more the 11 million safe man-hours without lost time incident (LTI). Its Pandacan Terminal or oil depot in Manila, meanwhile, received an Award of Distinction for attaining more than 6.5 million safe man-hours from January 2004 to September 2013 without LTI.
Shell Business Services Center (SBSC)–Manila, Shell’s shared services center, garnered an Award of Honor for achieving 4.2 million safe man-hours from January to September 2013 without LTI. The Malampaya Onshore Gas Plant of Shell Philippines Exploration, B.V. was given an Award of Merit for achieving almost 3 million safe man-hours from September 2001 to August 2013.
The Shell Bataan Terminal also received an Award of Merit for achieving 1.5 million safe man-hours from June 1999 to September 2013. Moreover, Shell Pasacao Terminal in Camarines Sur and Poro Terminal in La Union received awards for their perfect safety records for a year without LTI.
