Epson Phl dedicates 15th year to Filipinos

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Synonymous with industry-driving technology innovations, premium quality and customer-focus, Epson has elicited admiration and respect all over the world since the company’s inception in 1942.

The same business philosophy and commitment are instilled by the global technology innovator in its Philippine office when Epson Philippines Corporation (EPC) started operations 15 years ago. “We started with a modest representative office here in the Philippines, which eventually grew into a full-fledged marketing and sales arm known as the Epson Philippines Corp. in 1998.  Since then, we have grown rapidly in a span of a few years due to our client-oriented approach in our business management style.  We have also put up sales offices in Cebu and Davao to reach more customers in the southern part of the country. We have also established an extensive network of more than 77 authorized service centers nationwide with more than 200 dealers and more than 800 shops across the country,” explains EPC president/country manager Toshimitsu Tanaka.

As a strong R&D company, one of the advantages of Epson is its ability to create new products and technologies from the ground up. The company determines what the market needs, and then its engineers and researchers create the product to fulfill the need.

“One of our notable strengths is our customer focus in creating our products -- the cornerstone of our R&D is always to look at what the customer wants first and foremost. Then we create the products that address these demands,” says Tanaka. “Let me mention the L-Series. The L-Series was created precisely because we listened to what the customers want: and that is the best value that they can get from their printers without compromising quality. We were the first branded printers to respond to that need and that’s why we are now leading the market.”

Most recently, Epson has changed the landscape of printing with the introduction of the Epson L-Series: the world’s first and only genuine ink tank system printers. The Epson L-Series printers currently offer the lowest printing cost against any branded printer that uses genuine consumables. It is easy to use, provides high-quality prints, and is covered by the Epson warranty to provide peace of mind to customers. “We believe that the L-Series is a major factor in Epson attaining the #1 in value of shipment share (based on IDC Asia/Pacific Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker, Q3 2013) in the inkjet Hardcopy Peripherals market in Philippines for 2012 and Q1-Q3 2013.”

Aside from its Micro Piezo technology that powers its inkjet printers, Epson is likewise proud of its proprietary 3LCD technology for projectors. 3LCD has propelled Epson’s Projector business into the No.1 position globally for the past 12 years. “Since Epson has ownership of these technologies, we can customize them based on customer feedback, and what we think the market will appreciate,” adds Tanaka.

The warm reception that Epson has enjoyed in the Philippines has made the company even more motivated to serve the Filipino people in the coming years. “We always design our products to be high-precision (reliable, high-quality), eco-friendly (less impact to the environment), and energy-saving (savings on cost and resources). We make it a point that every Epson product has these three qualities in mind for the benefit of our customers.”

Another area of Epson’s commitment is in investments.  Epson’s investment in the Philippines not only serves as a cornerstone for Epson’s future global growth, but is also intended to contribute to the economic prosperity of the Philippines. In the manufacturing plant alone, Epson has created jobs for more than 10,000 Filipinos.

As a civic-minded organization, Epson strives to foster good relationships with the communities the company serves by exploring and implementing projects that benefit the people in these communities the most. Here in the Philippines, among the regular activities Epson has undertaken are efforts to help conserve the environment with regular tree-planting and coastal clean-up projects. During the commemoration of its 15th year, Epson Philippines Corporation launched the Epson Gift of Brightness program to focus on children’s education projects.

“In the case of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), Epson Precision (Philippines) Inc., Epson Philippines Corporation and Seiko Epson Corporation have donated 6.372 million to assist the disaster relief efforts. Whenever there are calamities, Epson also stands with the Filipinos in the most affected areas. We are fortunate that our Japan head office fully supports us in extending aid,” announces Tanaka.
