Globe: Network disruption due to 'Yolanda' minimal

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom said Friday that super typhoon "Yolanda" caused only minimal disruption on its operations in Visayas and Mindanao.

Robert Tan, Globe chief technical adviser, said in a statement that only 20 percent of its network in Visayas and only 6 percent in Mindanao were affected by the super typhoon as of noon.

Tan said that the network disruptions in Visayas and Mindanao were due to power supply interruption prompted by the super typhoon's strong winds.

"Some cell sites were also affected by misalignment of antennas due to gusty winds brought by the weather anomaly," Tan said.

Globe's service areas affected by the typhoon include Biliran, Cebu, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Southern Leyte, Western Samar and Iloilo. Services areas affected in Mindanao are in Camiguin, Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte.

Tan said Globe's technical team will address the network issues "as soon as it is safe for us to do so."

"We have mobilized our technical personnel to work 24/7 to restore text, call and data services as soon as possible,” he added.
