IT firm introduces cloud-based solutions

MANILA, Philippines - MDI Inc., an information technology (IT) solutions firm, plans to introduce a cloud-based solution for business processing outsourcing (BPO) firms next year as it anticipates demand for such technology to better manage data.

“Given the importance of this sector (BPO) in the Philippines and our role to enhance enterprises, we want to come up with a solution for BPO on virtualization and cloud by the first quarter of 2014,” MDI chief operating officer Marivic Segismundo said over the weekend.

She noted that while many companies in the Philippines are still fearful of the cloud or the applications, services or resources made available on demand via the Internet, BPO firms are expected to adopt the cloud in the future to better handle data.

This, as data being handled by BPO firms are seen to increase in the coming years.

“The BPO companies have been here for years and have been successful, so you can just imagine the accumulation of data,” she said.

As many BPO firms have chosen to locate in the Philippines, MDI would like to take advantage of the expected demand for cloud solutions by offering services that are only available here.

“We need to continuously offer them something different, something they can’t get from India,” Segismundo said.

MDI is currently working with its partners and getting inputs of BPO firms in order to provide cloud-based solutions for the sector.

The Philippines has been recognized as the global leader in terms of providing voice IT-business process management (BPM) services, while it is the second most preferred location in the world in terms of non-voice services.

Under the IT-BPM road map, the industry aims to generate a total of $25 billion worth of revenues both from the voice and non-voice segments and have 1.3 million employees by 2016.
