Prices of rice, other food staples remain stable – BAS

MANILA, Philippines - Prices of rice in most trading centers nationwide remain stable but price spikes were seen in Tacloban City, according to the latest price monitoring by the Bureau of  Agricultural Statistics (BAS).

BAS reported that for the week of Sept. 20 to Sept. 25, prices of rice distributed by the National Food Authority (NFA) in major trading centers remain stable.

The NFA sells regular-milled rice for P27 per kilogram and well-milled rice for P32 per kilogram.

Prices of premium rice in most trading centers nationwide also remain stable.

Prices of special rice fell by P1 per kilogram in San Fernando City while prices of well-milled rice fell by P1 per kilogram in the cities of Davao and San Fernando.

In the cities of Davao and San Fernando, prices of regular milled rice fell by P1 per kilogram.

Price of well-milled rice, however, rose by P3 per kilogram in Tacloban City and by P1 in Kidapawan City.

Prices of regular-milled rice also rose by P4 per kilogram in Kidapawan City.

Prices of chicken, beef, pork products and chicken egg remained stable during the week in most trading centers. In Tacloban, prices of dressed chicken fell by P5 per kilogram.

White potato, habitchuelas and cabbage were priced higher in most trading centers during the reference week. Falling prices, on the other hand, were seen for pechay, eggplant and tomato.

Prices of habitchuelas, for instance, were up by P8 per kilogram in Naga City and by P10 per kilogram in MetroManila and the cities of Tuguegarao,

Tacloban and Butuan. In Davao City, price was lower by P10 per kilogram.

Upward movements for fish prices were noted during the week.
