MANILA, Philippines - The Agusan del Sur Electric Cooperative (Aselco) has partnered with Peakpower San Francisco Inc. (Peakpower) for the construction of a five-megawatt bunker-fired power plant at the Aselco compound in Agusan.
Peakpower, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ABCI is engaged in the development, construction, operation and maintenance of bunker-fired power plants and systems.
It has tapped Wärtsilä Finland Oy (Wärtsilä), a global manufacturer of diesel engines for its requirements as well as Power, Manufacturing and Marine Works Inc. (PMM Works) as its power generation, engineering and construction contractor.
Peakpower San Francisco Inc. is one of ABCI’s build, operate, maintain and transfer projects. It is expected to be fully operational by the second half of 2014.
ABCI chairman Walter Brown said the power plant is expected to help address the lack of power in the Mindanao grid for the next two to three years.
“The less brownouts, the more we are able to help generate activity here,†Brown said.
He also said that because bunker fuel is cheaper, it would mean lower costs for consumers.
