Maynilad eyes opportunities in Baguio

MANILA, Philippines - West Zone water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. is scoping expansion opportunities in Baguio City and surrounding areas, according to businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan, whose holding firm has an interest in the utilities firm.

In an interview, Pangilinan, chairman of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) said Maynilad has been conducting consultations with the local government of Baguio for the expansion of service coverage.

“We try to help the local govenment with the water issues. If we are allowed, (we would pursue it) as quickly as we can,” he added.

Maynilad spokeswoman Cherubim Mojica said no project plans have been drawn up yet.

“(There are) no project particulars yet. We’re still studying how best to improve water services in the area. We really want to help the LGU with the water situation,” she said.

The water supply needs of Baguio City is primarily serviced by the Baguio Water District.

Some residents and establishments operate their own deep wells or rely on water delivery services.

Maynilad is co-owned by Consunji-controlled DMCI-Holdings Inc.

Maynilad is one of the two water concessionaires in Metro Manila.

It covers the cities of Manila except portions of San Andres and Sta Ana, Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue), the northern part starting from the (Districts of the Holy Spirit and Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South SuperHighway), Caloocan, Pasay, Paranaque, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite province.
