MANILA, Philippines - Panay Power Corp., subsidiary of Global Business Power Corp. which operates the 92-MW diesel power plant in Brgy. Ingore, La Paz, Iloilo City, recently celebrated a million-hour safety milestone.
Through the collective efforts of its employees, Panay Power has operated without any lost-time due to injury or accidents since March 2009. It strictly implements safety control and emergency preparedness programs and conducts various safety innovation activities.

Nilo Madrid, vice president for Panay operations, applauded the efforts of the employees. “This is a manifestation of everyone’s commitment to make our plant a safe workplace. Accidents are irreversible and there are no second chances. This achievement illustrates that we can prevent and avoid accidents if only we focus on safety consciousness,†said Madrid.
Panay Power also received the Department of Labor & Employment Award of Honor in last year’s 8th Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan (GKK), the highest and most prestigious award for occupational safety and health. It recognized the outstanding contributions of the company to the safety and health of its workers, workplaces and communities.
Aside from Panay Power, Global Power also owns a 164MW coal-fired power plant in La Paz operated by Panay Energy Development Corporation. It also operates other power plants in Cebu, Aklan and Oriental Mindoro.
