Manila Water set to complete 3.2-km sewer network

MANILA, Philippines - West Zone water concessionaire Manila Water Co. Inc is set to complete within the year a 3.2 kilometer sewer network in Marikina.

The P346-million sewer network would benefit 500,000 residents of San Mateo, Marikina and other nearby cities.

The multi-million sewer network  would be constructed through trenchless methodology and is set to be completed within one year.

Manila Water Strategic Asset Management Group director Abelardo Basilio said wastewater flowing from the Marikina Sewer Nework would be treated in a sewage treatment plant that is also being constructed in Marikina City.

The sewage treatment plant has a capacity of 100 liters per day.

“The project is part of the Marikina north sub-catchment program that will treat sewage flows coming from portions of Marikina and San Mateo,” Basilio said.

Manila Water continues to expand its sewerage service coverage within the East Zone concession area. 

To date, Manila Water is operating 37 sewage treatment plants and two septage treatment facilities with a total wastewater treatment capacity of 500 million liters per day.

To date, Manila Water has installed 109, 717 sewer connections which serves 158, 242 households in its concession area.

Manila Water is the East Zone concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System providing water and wastewater services to more than 6.2 million residents of portions of Quezon City and Manila, Marikina, Pasig, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Pateros, Makati, Taguig and several towns in Rizal Province.
