Puerto Galera hosts Shore It Up drive

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Scenic La Laguna Beach Club in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro will host this month the second stage of the five-leg 2013 Shore It Up campaign.

This was announced recently by the MVP group of companies, spearheaded by Metro Pacific Investments Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of conglomerate Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC).

Shore It Up is the country’s longest running corporate-backed coastal cleanup drive of MPIC. The infrastructure-based conglomerate (power, railways, tollways, hospitals, water) kicked off the first leg of  its 2013 campaign with a two-day event in Anilao, Batangas last May 24-25.

In a speech at the Anilao event, re-elected Mabini Mayor Nilo Villanueva called for more trees be planted in the province. His appeal was answered by Philex Mining Corp., a member of MVP Group, which pledged more seedlings for the effective preservation of the natural environment in the surrounding communities.

Melody del Rosario, MPIC VP for PR & Corporate Communications, said the foundation is busy ensuring that the next leg in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro will be as successful as the Anilao event. The first Shore it Up was launched in the same location three years ago.

“We’d like to sustain the gains of previous cleanup initiatives, so we are returning to the same locations this year to build on the advances that we have achieved over the half a decade since we launched Shore It Up,” Del Rosario added.
