Maynilad spends P124M to replace old pipes

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - West Zone Water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc is spending P124 million to replace old pipes in Caloocan City.

The company said that 23.5 kilometers of 30-year-old secondary and tertiary pipes in Caloocan City will be replaced by June.

This would improve water services for more than 85,000 residents in the city.

Once the new pipes are laid, water pressure in 42 barangays in Caloocan will be increased from seven pounds per square inch (psi) to 16 psi.

It will also allow Maynilad to connect around 1,400 people to its water distribution network and recover 30 million liters of water per day (MLD).

“We are committed to investing in our infrastructure to continuously improve our services. Our goal is to provide more communities in our concession area with 24-hour supply at 16 psi pressure,” said Maynilad president and CEO Ricky P. Vargas.

To minimize public inconvenience and help ensure traffic safety, Maynilad is closely coordinating with the local government of Caloocan City.

Affected roads are also immediately restored with temporary asphalt pavement to make them passable to motorists.

Maynilad said it will also regularly monitor its contractors to ensure that their work sites are fully enclosed by board-up barricades and have appropriate lighting and traffic/warning signs.
