Best practices in business protocol

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Protocol is the universal language of diplomacy with a set of rules all countries and parties follow in the conduct of business, politics, and socials. A mastery of this will enable you to handle any type of person in all kinds of situation whether you are in marketing or management, negotiating or entertaining guests, friends or clients, dealing with people of different cultures, meeting with VIPs, foreign dignitaries and government officials, or simply chatting with one’s in-laws. Believe it or not, protocol spells the difference between success and failure in business, in your career and in your personal life.

Historically, this was only taught exclusively for diplomats, ambassador and their protocol officers when they have to deal with governments and nations.  With the clamour of business leaders and government officials to learn this important subject, the Center for Global Best Practices (CGBP), in collaboration with the International Chamber of Commerce, is holding a special seminar entitled, “Best Practices in Business Protocol” on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Peninsula Hotel, Makati City. Full details of the program may be obtained from website www.cgbp.org or Manila telephone (02) 556-8968/ 69, Cebu (032) 512-3106 to 07 and Baguio at (074) 423-5148.

When you know your protocol, you command more respect and gain a mark of distinction as someone with education, class, finesse and skilled at handling different types of people and situations. Mastery of protocol shows your gravitas! It matters that you are conducting yourself in the right way in events including product launches, signing ceremonies, ribbon-cutting, conferences, business meetings, planning sessions and other important occasions.

This special program will feature Ambassador Jose Abeto Zaide (Ret), the former chief of protocol of the Department of Foreign Affairs.  As a career diplomat, he has 40 years of solid experience in diplomacy and foreign affairs. He was the former Philippine ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and France.

Another speaker to be featured is Ruy Y. Moreno, who is presently vice-chairman of the Center for Global Best Practices and concurrently holds the positions of chairman of the Philippine-Myanmar Business Council, executive director of the International Chamber of Commerce Philippines, and director for operations of the private sector-National Competitiveness Council (2008 to 2010).

He brings with him a wealth of experience having been the managing partner in Arthur Andersen Vietnam (1990-2000) and the first honorary consul general of the Philippines in Ho Chi Minh City (1995-2000).

It will also feature Rizabel Cloma-Santos who will discuss protocol for spouses as she will talk about her experiences and best practices in her capacity as the wife of a former chief of protocol of Malacañang and the current ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Presently, she is also the president of PMI Colleges.
