MANILA, Philippines - The number of available jobs for Filipino workers is seen to increase this year as the world economy is expected to improve and as favorable conditions in the local economy allow firms to expand.
In a briefing yesterday, JobStreet.com Philippines, Inc. marketing director Yolanda Rabe Buyco said she expects growth in available jobs for Filipinos to continue this year.
She noted that a total of 1.35 million jobs here and overseas were advertised in media last year, a 51 percent rise from 2011.
“Job prospects are good as we see the trend to continue in 2013,†she said.
Citing JobStreet.com’s recent survey of recruitment agencies licensed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), she said that 91 percent expect more overseas job orders this year as the world economy is picking up.
Just like last year, the Middle East is still seen to be biggest source of job orders.
Recruitment agencies said job orders are seen to come from Canada, Singapore and Australia.
In terms of type of work needed overseas, service worker jobs topped the list with 80 percent of recruitment firms saying that employers have a high requirement for the said position.
High demand is also expected for professional technical workers as well as transport equipment operators and laborers this year.
As for available jobs within the country, companies are expected to continue to have high demand for sales executives.
A survey conducted by JobStreet.com showed that almost half of responding employers started the year with a high requirement for sales jobs with favorable economic conditions enabling manufacturing firms to expand.
Buyco said information technology jobs which were big last year, are also likely to be in high demand this year.
JobStreet.com is a top search site for individuals seeking employment in Asia.
To help individuals find jobs and employers to get workers beyond its online platform, JobStreet.com is holding job fairs this year in eight different locations in the country.
Its first job fair, which will be held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, is scheduled on April 1 to 2.
The other job fairs slated for this year will be held in Pampanga, Laguna, Cavite, Cagayan De Oro, Cebu, Bacolod and Davao.
