MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Stock Exchange index made a new record on Wednesday after piercing the 6,800 mark on the back of gains in the global market.
The bellwether PSEi closed at 6,835.21, 123.49 points or 1.84 percent higher than the previous record of 6,721.45 set last Feb. 13. Intraday, the main index hit higher, peaking at 6,842.97 after setting the previous record of 6,725.36 recorded last March 1.
“Global markets are rallying on positive economic indicators, while locally, initial earnings reports of our listed companies have been generally better than expected. Given these promising developments, the sustained growth of the market finds more support that will hopefully lead us to reach new milestones,†PSE Chief Operating Officer Roel A. Refran said.
The PSEi has so far set 23 record highs this year, the latest being the 84th feat under the Aquino administration.
