BOC’s CDO district collection up 26%
MANILA, Philippines - The Cagayan de Oro (CDO) collection district of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) raised P559.2 million in January, up 26 percent against its target of P443.1 million, newly-appointed district collector Lourdes Mangaoang said in a report.
Mangaoang said last month’s collections also reflected an increase of P248.7 million or 80 percent from the revenues generated during the same period last year.
In January last year, the collection district failed to meet its target because the first month of the year is traditionally a lean month for imports.
With the improved performance, Mangaoang said the CDO collection district is on track to meeting its 2013 target.
“This welcome spike in revenue inspires confidence that our district is on track to meet our 2013 collection target of nearly P5.65 billion,†she said.
Of the three sub-ports under the CDO district port, the Mindanao Container Terminal-Subport (MCT-SP) was the best revenue earner with income totaling P494.7 million, data from the collection district showed.
The MCT-SP services the logistical requirements of big corporations such as Nestle Philippines and oil industry players Jetti and Phoenix Petroleum.
The sub-port of Iligan in Lanao del Norte, meanwhile, contributed P17.48 million while the sub-port of Ozamis in Misamis Oriental raised P1.2 million. The main port of Cagayan de Oro accounted for duties and taxes in excess of P45.77 million.
In all, the BOC, the government’s second largest revenue agency, collected P24.454 billion in January, higher than a year ago but slightly below the P26 billion target for the month.
“This is 11.2 percent over January 2012 which was P21.99 billion,†Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon earlier said.
