Ex-White House economist tackles possible Phl upgrade

MANILA, Philippines - First Metro Investment Corp. (FMIC) will host an investment summit to discuss the possibility of a Philippine economic upgrade in 2013.

Scheduled on Jan. 30, the forum will tackle the possible challenges the Philippines may face in its bid to draw in more foreign and domestic investments.

Keynoting the event is economic guru Nouriel Roubini, who is expected to share factors that have inspired investors’ renewed confidence in the Philippines as well as capital market opportunities waiting to be developed.

Roubini is the co-founder and chairman of Roubini Global Economics, an independent global macroeconomic strategy research firm. He is also a professor of economics at New York University’s Stern School of Business.

He has extensive policy experience as well as broad academic credentials.

From 1998 to 2000, he served as the senior economist for international affairs on the White House Council of Economic Advisors and then the senior advisor to the undersecretary for international affairs at the US Treasury Department, helping resolve the Asian and global financial crises, among other issues.

The International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and numerous other prominent public and private institutions have drawn upon his consulting expertise.

The summit, to be held at the Makati Shangri-La, will also feature a roundtable discussion with Roubini on the Philippine growth story.

Aside from Roubini, the summit will be attended by economic experts and key corporate executives who will examine prospects and investment opportunities, assess risks and challenges, and share investment success stories.
