Globe is Phl best in sustainability reporting

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom joined an elite number of South East Asian companies recognized for their exceptional sustainability reports in the recently concluded 8th Indonesia Sustainability Reporting Awards (ISRA) in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Globe grabbed the ISRA Best Sustainability Report in the Philippines award for its 2011 Integrated Annual & Sustainability Report.

This is the first time that Indonesia’s premier sustainability reporting award has included other South East Asian companies to be recognized for their excellent sustainability reporting.

“Indonesia has been a driver for sustainability reporting in South East Asia for a number of years. Since there is no similar award in this region, we have expanded the ISRA 2012 to give recognition to companies in South East Asia,” says Ali Darwin, Chairman of the National Center for Sustainability Reporting (NCSR) and organizer of the ISRA. “Thus the ISRA will be named Sustainability Reporting Awards (SRA) for the coming years which is inline with our expansion of the awards in South East Asia,” Darwin added.

The Globe 2011 Annual & Sustainability Report (ASR) provides a complete picture on the ongoing commitments of Globe on economic, environment and social impacts, information which has never been disclosed in previous years. With the theme “Revolutionize total customer satisfaction through transformation brought by network modernization and cultural reformation,” the ASR also provided a venue for Globe to announce its milestones and achievements for 2011.

The combined annual and sustainability report is a milestone in the industry as it is the first externally assured report that tapped the services of external companies in developing and auditing the report, making Globe the first Philippine telecommunications firm to meet international standards in the disclosure of accurate and reliable information in annual reports using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards.

It also pioneered several features including a Quick Response (QR) game at the end of the report, delivering a more delightful and personalized way for stakeholders to experience the report.

The Globe ASR was also recognized in the 2011 Philippine Quill Awards as it won an Excellence Award in the Publications category of the Communication Skills Division.

The Indonesia Sustainability Reporting Awards now on its eight year, honors organizations who publish and develop their sustainability reports based on the GRI Framework presented and organized by NCSR. The award is presented to companies having reported on activities involving environmental and social aspect besides economical aspect to maintain sustainability of the company itself.

According to Darwin, sustainability reports “are a vehicle to stakeholders to understand how far the company is dealing with sustainability issues such as reducting the use of energy, water management, waste management, emissions and social issues such as enhancing the quality of life towards the local community.”

Aside from Globe, other South East Asian country winners included Telekom Malaysia Berhad (Best Sustainability Report in Malaysia), City Development Limited (Best Sustainability Report in Singapore) and Siam Cement Group (Best Sustainability Report in Thailand).
