BCDA set to complete John Hay claims survey

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) will complete the survey of 14 barangays with ownership claims within the John Hay reservation, a former military facility, by December this year, to finally provide titles to residents.

In a statement yesterday, the BCDA said it expects to complete the relocation, structural and utility surveys of the 14 concerned barangays by next month.

“The survey is expected to be completed in December of this year,” it said.

The BCDA noted that barangay residents, during a recent meeting with the state-run corporation and its implementing arm, John Hay Management Corp. (JHMC), pledged to cooperate with the government in fast-tracking the segregation of the respective barangays.

The segregation would pave the way for barangay residents to get the land titles.

JHMC chair Silvestre C. Afable Jr. said the segregation would be done in accordance with the government’s thrust of promoting transparency.

“We are for segregation because it is the rightful thing to do, (but) we need to have a sense of community, security, unity and home,” he said.
