BPI-Smart mobile banking generates over P120M deals

MANILA, Philippines - The partnership between the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and Smart Communications Inc. has generated over P120 million worth transactions since the start of the year, according to a bank official.

During the launch of a new reloading promo, BPI assistant vice president Carlo Gatuslao told a press briefing that since they entered into a partnership with the telecom firm in 2009, they have recorded some 120,000 bank clients using their Smart cellphones in doing transactions with BPI.

Gatuslao said Smart subscribers form a big chunk in the total 400,000 mobile banking clients of BPI.

Year on year, Gatuslao noted that Smart subscribers, who are also BPI clients, have increased by 26 percent over last year.

According to the bank official, BPI and Smart Communications have been continuously innovating and launching promos to enable mobile banking as one of the effective channels to do electronic banking.

“We always want to develop channels that would be most convenient for our clients and we see mobile banking as one of these channels,” he said.

So far, he said BPI has already exceeded its target of 350,000 clients for their mobile banking transactions.

“We are now at 400,000 level and this is much higher than the 286,000 in 2011,” he said.

In line with the effort to improve its mobile banking transactions, BPI through its mobile banking platform BPI Express Mobile and Smart Communications launched the newest reloading promo that gives Smart and Talk N’ Text subscribers the chance to win cool prizes.

Specifically, BPI Express Mobile and Smart launched a mobile banking enrollment, prepaid reloading, and Smart Money reloading promo, giving clients the chance to win one of the eight coolest gadgets in the market today.
