MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom Inc., has tied up with BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion (RIM) to offer exclusive promos for prepaid subscribers using BlackBerry smartphones in the Philippines.
Globe Mobile Data Services head Jenny Granada-Echevarria said in a statement that the telecom provider has partnered with BlackBerry retail outlets for the promos.
“Now is really the best time to get a BlackBerry device and pair it with a BlackBerry plan of your choice, so you can stay connected anytime, anywhere at a price that’s within reach,” she said.
For every purchase of a BlackBerry smartphone in any participating retail outlet, Globe prepaid subscribers who avail of a one month subscription to BlackBerry Chat for P99 would get two months of free subscription.
On the other hand, Globe prepaid subscribers who avail of a one month BlackBerry Social subscription at P299 would get an extra month for free.
“With our complete line-up of affordable data plans for BlackBerry users, we are taking the offers a notch higher by giving away free month or months subscription of BlackBerry Chat or BlackBerry Social, giving our subscribers more time to grow their BBM circles or social networks without having to worry about costs,” she said.
The new promos are meant to keep pace with the increasing use of social networking sites among Filipinos. The Philippines has been ranked as the 8th largest Facebook user base in the world and the 10th heaviest user of microblogging site Twitter worldwide.
RIM managing director for South Asia Hastings Singh said the company is excited with its continued partnership with Globe.
“We are excited to partner with Globe to introduce these new attractive offers on all BlackBerry models for prepaid customers in the Philippines. We strive to offer choices to our customers so that they can choose the smartphone and a data plan that best suit their lifestyle. We believe customers will be delighted with these offers,” he said.
The partnership between Globe and RIM started in 2004 when Globe expanded the presence of BlackBerry in the country.
To date, RIM has over 78 million subscribers and 650 carriers in 175 countries, giving users around the world access to its variety of device offers.
