BIR widens coverage for tax reprieve
MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has included businesses in the country’s financial district and neighboring cities to its list of taxpayers that received a reprieve from the monthly deadline for tax payment.
In a circular released yesterday, the BIR has added its Revenue Region of Makati City to the list of revenue offices that are covered by the deadline extension.
On Thursday, the BIR already issued circular extending the deadline for the payment of certain monthly taxes supposedly due yesterday to Monday, Aug. 13.
The second circular covers the revenue district offices (RDOs) of Taguig, Pateros, Parañaque, Pasay, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa and Makati.
BIR Commissioner Kim Henares said in two circulars that the extension of the deadline is due to “continuing bad weather condition.”
Torrential rains that caused heavy flooding in various parts of Manila since Sunday shut down banking operations and financial markets on Tuesday.
Among the taxes due today are the monthly income tax, value-added tax, creditable income tax, withholding tax and the excise tax for the sale of gold and other metallic mineral products by small-scale miners to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
The first revenue memorandum circular covered the BIR’s RDOs 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 under the BIR office in Calasiao, Pangasinan; RDOs 17A, 17B, 18, 19, 20, 21A and 21B under the BIR office in San Fernando, Pampanga; RDOs 24, 25A, 25B, 26 and 27 under the BIR office in Caloocan City; RDOs 29, 30, 31, 32, 33 and 34 under the BIR office in Manila; RDOs 28, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43A, 43B, 45 and 46 under the BIR office in Quezon City; RDOs 54A, 54B, 55, 56, 57, 58, 60, 61 and 63 under the BIR office in San Pablo, Laguna and the Large Taxpayers office in Makati.
Henares said the new deadline shall not be extended.
