Iloilo hosts international packaging confab

MANILA, Philippines - The Province of Iloilo plays host to GlobalPack 2012, the largest international packaging conference and trade exhibition in the Philippines, to be held July 26 to 27at the Sarabia Manor in Iloilo City.

Leading personalities in the world of packaging, headlined by World Packaging Organization (WPO) president and CEO Thomas Schneider and Filipino Hall of Famer for Packaging Dr. Lejo Brana, will be speaking at the conference that will tackle important planning milestones leading to a “New Roadmap for Export Packaging”, the conference theme. The event is designed to benefit the international packaging industry, Philippine manufacturing, and the Small- and Medium-scale Enterprise (SME) sector.

Other international speakers include Dr. Bruce Harte, professor at the Michigan State University (MSU) School of Packaging and an adjunct professor in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition; Herbert Scheuneman, president of Westpack Inc. and Institute of Packaging Professional (IoPP) fellow; and Dr. Janice Harte, associate professor in the MSU Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.

GlobalPack 2012 will include an exhibition showcasing processing and packaging businesses, an SME export packaging seminar-workshop held in partnership with the San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corp., and numerous networking opportunities during the conference proper. Other activities include a Fun Run and a golf tournament at the Santa Barbara Golf Course.

Highlighting the event is the launch of Packaging Testing Laboratory at the Central Philippines University in Jaro, Iloilo City. The UN-certified laboratory was designed and donated by Dr. Brana, a packaging professional for more than 40 years. He is the first and only Filipino Packaging Hall of Fame member of the IoPP.
