Multi-level marketing firm says it won't tolerate any illegal activity

MANILA, Philippines - Unlimited Network of Opportunities (UNO), a multi-level marketing company, said it had nothing to do with the recent unscrupulous activities of a few of its members who were featured in a television program.

UNO marketing manager Chris Sta. Cruz said the company would never tolerate any illegal activity of its members and will immediately and appropriately enforce the necessary sanctions as clearly stated in their Code of Ethics for members.

Some UNO members were accused by a complainant of engaging in what is called as BUST (benta, utang, sangla and tuition) in which members are recruited and are made to pay in forms other than straight cash. The nefarious activity was taken with a hidden camera by the TV program in a cafeteria.

 “We would like to inform the public and our numerous members who are uprightly doing business that this is just an isolated case and we assure you the company is doing something about it. One of our company policies is that we conduct business inside our office premises and our business centers. Hence the transaction shown in the video footage was illegal right from the start because it was conducted outside our offices,” Sta. Cruz explained

Sta. Cruz said they have a strict policy on accepting minors in the system and in the required work hours. In a memorandum, UNO management strictly imposes government laws on employment such as the 18 years and above job rule and the eight daily work hours or the 40 work hours a week prerequisites.

“We believe that these are just very minor and isolated activities and were overly glorified by some of our competitors because of our outstanding achievements and our leading reputation in the MLM industry. Multi level marketing is a duly recognized, accepted and legal way of marketing as stated in Republic Act no. 7394 or the Consumer act of the Philippines,” Sta. Cruz added.
