MANILA, Philippines - Car sales of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) fell nine percent in the first three months of 2012.
Data released by CAMPI yesterday showed that the aggregate sales of its member companies reached 13,631 units in March, down slightly from the 13,750 units sold in the same month last year for a decline of 0.9 percent.
Aggregate car sales for March were 27.6 percent higher than the 10,681 units sold in February.
Sales for the first three months of the year stood at 32,608 units, down 9.9 percent compared to 36,184 units sold in the first three months of 2011. This leaves 121, 392 units that need to be sold to meet the 2012 sales target of CAMPI and TMA this year.
Passenger car sales rose 13 percent to 4,341 units in March from 3, 841 units sold in the same period last year. Sales of Commercial vehicles rose 22.3 percent to 9,290 in March from 7, 595 units sold in the same period last year.
Toyota Motors Philippines continues to lead CAMPI and TMI members in total vehicle sales sales in March with 5,390 units sold, down 0.3 percent from 5,407 units sold in the same period last year.
It is followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. with 3,168 units sold in March, up by 0.4 percent from 3,155 sold in the same month last year.
Third is Isuzu Philippine Corp with 982 units sold in March, up 0.5 percent from 977 units sold in the same period last year.
