MANILA, Philippines -In a recent disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), Philex Mining Corp. revealed the appointment of lawyer and former Press Secretary Michael T. Toledo as head for corporate affairs and government relations.
Toledo, who was until recently the president and CEO for the Manila office of global PR and communications firm Weber Shandwick, has had a wealth of experience serving both in the private and public sectors.
He finished his Bachelor of Laws from the University of the Philippines and obtained a Master of Laws degree from the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science as a scholar of the British government.
He was also accepted to the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at the Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. He cut his teeth as a lawyer with one of the most prominent law firms in the country, the Angara Abello Concepcion Regala and Cruz law offices and eventually served as Press Secretary and spokesman during the time of President Joseph Estrada.
He also sat on the boards – either as director or legal consultant – of several government owned and controlled corporations such as the Government Service Insurance System, the Manila International Airport Authority, the Department of Transportation and Communication, the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority and many others.
Toledo has also held key positions in private companies. He was also recently elected as a member of the board of governors of the Manila Overseas Press Club and was concurrently appointed as spokesperson, and is also a member of the executive council of the ASEAN Law Association (ALA).
Toledo’s appointment with Philex, one of the biggest mining firms in the Philippines, has been hailed by key players in the industry as a positive development given Toledo’s experience in both the executive and legislative branches of government as well as his stint as host for public-oriented, legal advise TV programs.
