Flour millers set up academy, offer baking courses
MANILA, Philippines - Local flour millers are offering baking courses to entrepreneurs who want to put up a bakery business.
Baking is a profitable business. Bread, being a favorite breakfast and merienda fare is a sure seller. The pandesal, ensaymada, monay and other local favorites are not only delicious items, they are also easy to prepare.
And so long as you exercise good business practices and maintain the quality of your products, you will surely enjoy running a bakery business.
But no one must invest in a business blindly, no matter how big the profit potential. One must first learn the trade. In the bakery business, the entrepreneur must learn how to bake.
The best place to learn baking is the PAFMIL Baking Center which is run by the Philippine Association of Flour Millers, the biggest group of flour millers in the country. PAFMIL members supply most of the flour requirements of the bakery industry.
PAFMIL Baking Center offers courses meant for budding entrepreneurs, housewives who want to start a small bsuness and anyone interested in opening bakeries and bakeshops.
On Jan. 30 to Feb. 4, the center opens its Basic Bread Baking Course, a five-day program covering theoretical and laboratory acivities designed to equip the students with knowledge and skills to produce quality breads. Bakery mathematics, Ingredients and their functions and basic bakery management topics are part of the curriculum. Students are required to bake bread everyday.
Tuition fee is P5, 000 per person and covers all materials, handouts and ingredients.
Basic Cake Decoration Course follows on Feb. 14-17. This course is designed for beginners who would like to venture into cake production and needs some artistic skills to come up with delicious looking, well-decorated cakes. Tuition is P4,000 per person.
