-

MANILA, Philippines -  Shell group of companies in the Philippines (Shell) was hailed as the Most Outstanding Corporation in the Practice of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by the Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) in its 2011 Recognition Awards for Outstanding Practices and Initiatives in Sustainable Development.

As the umbrella organization of manufacturers and producers in the Philippines, FPI promotes the adoption of sustainable development in its member companies’ operations and recognizes outstanding practices and initiatives in the following areas: management of waste, optimum use of resources, health and safety initiatives and corporate social responsibility.

Under the CSR category, FPI gave importance to CSR programs in education, livelihood, environment, emergency response, among others, which are sustainable by having beneficiaries of CSR programs as stakeholders in the operations of the FPI member company.

“We are truly honored to be recognized by the Federation of Philippine Industries for our CSR initiatives. This affirms our strong commitment to Sustainable Development through our products, services and operations, as we constantly implement new and innovative ways to improve our operational efficiency, minimise our impact to the environment and help our customers do the same. We strive to keep looking for creative solutions to help meet the challenges of the new energy future and build strong partnerships to implement our CSR programmes for nation-building,” said Edgar Chua, country chairman of Shell companies in the Philippines.

Among the CSR programs Shell implements are those in the areas of education, health, capacity-building/livelihood, environment and safety.
