MANILA, Philippines - Eduardo ‘Ed’ Valdes Francisco, president of BDO Capital and Investment Corp. (the investment house of BDO Unibank), is the president of the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) for 2012. Francisco is the 63rd president of MAP since its inception in 1950.
Francisco has over two decades of experience in investment banking, which included working with financial institutions in New York and Hong Kong.
As an advocate for developing the capital markets, he currently serves as co-chairman of the Capital Market Development Council (CMDC) of the Philippines.
He also sits on the boards of the Investment Houses Association of the Philippines (IHAP), Wharton-Penn Club of the Philippines, UP-Development Center for Finance, CIBI Foundation, LGU Guarantee Corp., Foundation for Filipino Entrepreneurs (FFE) and International School of Manila. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) and a member of Rotary Makati West and the Bike King Triathlon Team.
He previously served as president of BDO Securities Corp., Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) and the Wharton-Penn Club.
He received his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and his BSBA from the University of the Philippines (UP). He is also a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the UP College of Business Administration and a former Microsoft Business Icon.
He is married to the former Maura Criselda Castro, with whom he has two children.
Francisco will lead the MAP in 2012 along with the following board members Pacita Chit U. Juan, president of Philippine Coffee Board, Inc., as vice president; Rafael Raffy M. Alunan III, president of Lopez Group Foundation, Inc., as treasurer; Francisco ‘Popoy’ F. Del Rosario Jr., president of Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), as Assistant Treasurer; and Francisco Frankie C. Eizmendi Jr., president of Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA), as secretary.
The other board members are Carlos ‘Do’ C. Ejercito, chairman and president of Northern Access Mining, Inc.; Cirilo ‘Vic’ P. Noel, chairman and managing partner of SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. (SGV); Melito ‘Mel’/Bimbo S. Salazar, Jr., vice president of Manila Bulletin Publishing Corp.; and James G. Velasquez, president and country general manager of IBM Philippines, Inc.
