- Reinir Padua -

Nanning, China – Exports from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and China grew last year due to the annual exposition held in this city, ASEAN Secretary General Dr. Surin Pitsuwan said yesterday.

Surin said ASEAN exports to China grew by 40 percent in 2010 due to the China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO).

He said China’s exports to ASEAN countries grew by 30 percent also because of the CAEXPO.

The 8th CAEXPO is being held in this city, which is the capital of south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

It is co-sponsored by the ministries of commerce/trade and industry of China, the 10 ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Secretariat.

The trade exposition is being held concurrent with the 8th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit.

In line with this year’s theme on environmental protection, the CAEXPO will also hold a forum on environmental protection cooperation.

Surin dubbed the CAEXPO as the highest cooperation between China and the ASEAN.

He even lauded China for such an event that he said threshes out concerns on the economy and trade.
