MANILA, Philippines - State-run Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) is bidding out the operations and maintenance (O&M) contract for the 650-megawatt (MW) of the Malaya thermal power plant in Pililla, Rizal for P716.8 million.
Conrad Tolentino, chairman of PSALM’s bids and awards committee, said they will be bidding out a new O & M contract for Malaya within a period of one year.
“Korea Electric Power Corp.’s (Kepco) contract will be synchronized with that,” he added.
The deadline for the submission of bids is on Sept. 2, with a pre-bid conference to be held on Aug. 19.
Kephilco, Kepco’s Philippine unit, operates the Malaya thermal power plant.
The plant’s contracted capacity was originally set for bidding on June 16, 2010 but the bidding was declared a failure after only one bidder (First Gen Corp. of the Lopez Group) submitted an offer but was rejected by the PSALM board.
The two other pre-qualified bidders, Pacifica Inc. and Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp., did not proceed with their offer.
PSALM decided to defer the rebidding of the Malaya contracted capacity after a thorough evaluation by the PSALM board.
