Group aims to turn OFWS into entrepreneurs

MANILA, Philippines -  The Pamilyang Overseas Filipino Workers-Small and Medium Entrepreneurs Network Foundation Inc. (Pamilyang OFWs) announced its events this year which are all aimed at transforming a majority of OFW families into community entrepreneurs.

The foundation, which was established in 2002, is regularly holding quarterly expositions which are also aimed at empowering the OFW and MSME (micro, small and medium entrepreneurs) families through information, opportunities and benefits.

Pamilyang OFWs president George Arban Arriola said the following are the foundation’s expositions this year at the Philippine Trade Training Center in Pasay City:

Handog kay P-Noy Jobs and Livelihood Expo 2011 (Part 1) back-to-back with the 6th Pamilyang OFWs-MSMEs Summer Expo, March 25-26;

Handog kay P-Noy Jobs and Livelihood Expo 2011 (Part 2) back-to-back with the 10th Pamilyang OFWs-MSMEs Expo, June 24-25;

Handog kay P-Noy Jobs and Livelihood Expo 2011 (Part 3) back-to-back with the 8th Filipino Seafarers Family Expo & Forum, Sept. 23-24;

And the Handog kay P-Noy Jobs and Livelihood Expo 2011 (Part 4) back-to-back with the 6th Pamaskong Handog sa Pamilyang OFWs at MSMEs, Dec. 9-10.

Arriola said the foundation’s other event is the inauguration of the Pamilyang OFWs-MSMEs Opportunities Center Building in Brgy. Maligaya, Gloria, Oriental Minodoro today.

Gloria Mayor Loreto Perez has expressed his support to the Pamilyang OFWs which will help generate jobs and provide livelihood opportunities not only in the said town but also in the whole province.

Arriola said the 245-square meter building is the Pamilyang OFWs’ first provincial job, livelihood, investment and business opportunities center. He said that the nine million OFWs are not just “modern-day heroes” but also “great investors” whose remittances help keep the Philippine economy and corporate earnings afloat.
