Globe Telecom releases CSR, sustainability report
MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom has released its corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability report which documents its compliance to the global practice of integrating socially responsible practices in business operations.
This marks the second time that Globe has published a sustainability report.
Globe emphasized that it is the only telecommunications company in the Philippines to come out with a sustainability report adhering to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework, the most accepted international reporting framework applicable to corporations of any size, type or location. It sets the standard on which organizations shall measure their economic, environmental, and social performance.
At present, many organizations in the Philippines are already conducting their respective CSR activities. However, only a handful was able to report using the GRI standard. Other corporations which have done this include Manila Water, the Bank of the Philippine Islands, Ayala Land, Cebu Holdings and Cebu Property Ventures — all under the Ayala Group of Companies.
The Globe CSR and sustainability report reflects the company’s concrete efforts in ensuring that the environmental, economic, and social well-being of its stakeholders are incorporated in its business strategy and vision for society. It outlines the sustained efforts of Globe in realizing the said commitment by providing relevant and life-enhancing communications, products and services.
“We believe that by delivering superior customer experience, ensuring a reliable network service, providing accessibility and ease of use for mobile commerce by providing opportunities to microentrepreneurs, we fulfill our fundamental role of keeping Filipinos in touch with their families and being a key enabler in their livelihood to help realize their dreams and aspirations,” Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu said.
He added that they harnessed their core competency in information and communication technology to develop business solutions that address some of the social challenges they face. “By innovating and adopting new technologies, we also launched first-in-market products and services that are value-enhancing to the lives and livelihood of our various stakeholders,” he said.
Cu also pointed out that the advocacy for social responsibility should start from within the corporate offices and business practices.
At the most basic and fundamental level, the company’s commitment to the development of employees, achieving operational efficiencies, ensuring continued success of the business, at the same time recognizing the impact of business operations on the environment, form the foundation of its sustainability strategy.
Globe said it was able to make in-roads in developing the country’s local talents and in helping create a low carbon society by developing its people resources and institutionalizing resource-efficient infrastructures and processes.
The company added that it takes its social responsibility to heart and recognizes that its stakeholders expect no less. This commitment entails active involvement in public service and requires transparency in reporting proactive communications to its stakeholders. “This is a continuing and growing commitment which we hope to fulfill with the support of our shareholders, customers, employees, business partners, and our immediate communities,” Cu said.
