Manila Water reports partial completion of P800-M project

MANILA, Philippines - Ayala-controlled East Zone water concessionaire Manila Water Co. Inc. has completed part of its P800 million water service improvement initiative in Rizal.

The Rizal system project includes the construction of five reservoirs, a pumping station, and laying of new transmission lines that will benefit a total of 21,000 households in Antipolo, Angono and Binangonan.

Aside from the reservoirs, the project also includes laying of new pipelines measuring 250-500 mm in diameter for the expected 13,819 new households that will require water service connections.

Manila Water operates 33 reservoirs throughout the concession area.

Nine more reservoirs are lined up for completion by 2014.

The Ayala-controlled water utilities firm recently inaugurated its newly-completed reservoir located in Eastridge, Binangonan, which will expand its service network and meet the growing water demand in the Rizal area.

 “The Eastridge reservoir in Binangonan will ensure the further expansion of the distribution network in Rizal. The project is part of the company’s commitment to provide reliable and potable water supply even to the farthest points of the East Zone,” according to Manila Water Pasig area business manager Marvin Panday.

Manila Water provides 24-hour water supply to 7,000 households in Binangonan.

The Eastridge reservoir will provide an additional 10 million liters of clean, safe and potable water to elevated residential areas including St. Monique Valais, St. Michael Village, Mabuhay Homes, Ynares Village and Madrigal Village.

According to Milagros Adolfo, president of Ynares Villages, residents in the area now enjoy continuous water supply, 24 hours a day on a daily basis.

Adolfo said, “we used to rely on local water cooperatives where supply is very limited and cannot sustain all residents of our village, or from truck vendors for P25 per drum which is expensive and burdens our daily expenses.”
