Globe fires up new cable landing facility
MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom has fired up its new international cable landing facility in Nasugbu, Batangas in a bid to further strengthen its network.
The new international cable landing station will host the Southeast Asia Japan Cable (SJC) system where Globe is the exclusive landing party in the Philippines.
The SJC has the highest capacity system in the world. Globe’s investment in this system will thus enable cost-effective and resilient connectivity to other countries and other submarine cable systems, the company’s top executive said.
“We continue to strengthen our network by investing in submarine cable systems that will further increase the capacity and boost the resiliency of the Globe network. In line with our thrust to provide superior customer experience, we want to give more choices and reliable connections to customers by continuously improving our facilities,” Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu said.
He noted that the Nasugbu international gateway has been a key driver of economic development and employment.
Globe’s carrier services head Gil Genio said while there are alternative cable landing stations, Nasugbu has been the pioneer. “And we return to celebrate the opening of yet another facility that will cement Nasugbu’s place in the Philippine telecommunication history,” he added.
The new cable landing station will bring traffic from the Philippines to international destinations. Once installed, the SJC system will link Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, the Philippines and Japan with onward connectivity to the US, providing customers faster and better Internet experience.
The SJC is a high-capacity submarine cable system and uses wavelength transmission technology with design capacity of 17 terabits per second (Tbps) that could be upgraded to 23 Tbps, the highest in the world. About 1.2 Tbps to 2 Tbps will be going through the Philippine branch.
The company officials noted that the new cable landing station and the SJC system will bring increased cable diversity to the Globe network, adding that it will benefit customers in terms of continuous and superior Internet connectivity and voice services, and enable more advanced solutions in the Philippine market.
