Globe takes lead in local deployment of BlackBerry

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom has taken the lead in the Philippine deployment of BlackBerry devices, beating key competitors in terms of sales and number of subscribers using the device.

As of end-September 2010, the company’s BlackBerry sales were up more than 200 percent year-on-year, with over 40,000 units sold.

BlackBerry is a line of smartphones designed and developed by Canada-based firm Research In Motion (RIM). The company also creates software for businesses and the operating system that allows the BlackBerry smartphone to provide mobile access to email, IM, apps, media files, the Internet and more. Today, RIM’s BlackBerry commands about 20 percent of the worldwide smartphone market with about 50-million users.

The BlackBerry offers from Globe, coupled with its post-paid and complementary add-on offers that have given users the convenience of connectivity at their fingertips, have helped Globe maintain its market leadership, particularly in the postpaid plan category.

“Globe has been a vital partner of RIM since 2002, when the BlackBerry(r) debuted in the Philippines. Globe and the BlackBerry both share a passion for innovation to make things easier and simpler for our customers. We have an array of prepaid and postpaid offers where Globe subscribers can customize and tailor-fit depending on their usage of their BlackBerry devices,” Globe chief marketing officer Menchi Orlina said. – Globe Telecom
