Globe still dominates mobile postpaid market

-

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom continued to dominate the mobile postpaid segment with a higher revenue base and increasing SIM ownership, the company said.

Globe said that based on financial statements filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the first half of 2010, the Ayala-owned telecommunications company had postpaid service revenues of P6.8 billion while Smart Communications had P3.4 billion. Sun Cellular and its listed parent company Digital Telecommunications Phils Inc. (Digitel) had not disclosed any comparable figure.

It added that aside from having the highest mobile postpaid revenue share in the industry, recent results of a nationwide consumer tracking research conducted by  research firm Nielsen show that Globe maintains a significant lead over its competitors in the same segment in terms of SIM ownership.

Aggregated tracking data from April to August 2010 showed that Globe cornered 48 percent of the total base of all consumer postpaid owners nationwide, much higher than Sun’s 28 percent and Smart’s 23 percent postpaid SIM share, it pointed out.

Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu attributed the company’s widening lead in the postpaid segment to its strategy of focusing on quality subscribers, recalibrating acquisition efforts with more innovative postpaid plans and giving higher value for loyalty.

“The results of the research affirm that we are on the right track in gaining market and revenue share. Our thrust towards customer-centricity is gaining momentum, as shown by strong market interest in our customizable ‘My Super Plan’ and ‘My Fully Loaded Plan’ offers. More importantly, it shows that our customers appreciate our commitment in giving them superior experience through our products and services,” he said.

My Super Plan is a buffet of services where subscribers can choose and pay for all-you-can call, text or web surfing, depending on their needs and usage. On the other hand, My Fully Loaded Plan is a new postpaid offer that allows subscribers to choose a monthly consumable amount, up to nine bonus or free offers and a selection of handsets.

Cu earlier said that Globe would recalibrate its product and service offers to compete for market share.

“In the past two months, we have noted an increase in revenues and usage. We are inspired to continually find ways to improve our offers and our service via improvements in our network and equipment,” he pointed out.

Globe has revolutionized postpaid plans with its attractive packages, including qwerty, touch-screen and Android phones at more affordable rates. Recently, Globe introduced the iPhone 4 in the Philippine market via its postpaid plans. Aside from having the most attractive handsets and packages, Globe also offers its subscribers the most innovative loyalty rewards program in the industry.

The MyRewards MyGlobe program allows subscribers to earn points based on how much they load or spend and how long they keep their Globe SIMs active. These points can be used to redeem items, or get discounts and freebies from partner establishments by simply showing the SMS coupons sent to their Globe phones.
