MANILA, Philippines - Acer is now the number one overall PC brand in the Philippines, according to the latest ratings report released by industry research specialist Gartner. This development also helped contribute to make Acer the number two PC brand globally, maintaining its lead over the former number two-ranked American PC giant Dell Computers.
Based on latest figures released by Gartner’s PC Tracker results for the first quarter of 2010, Acer showed great numbers in terms of volume shipment of desktops and notebooks, overall market share and year-on-year growth rate. These vital performance factors helped contribute to make Acer the number one brand in notebooks and the number one overall PC vendor to become the top PC brand in the country today.
The report bared that Taiwan-based Acer Group, Inc., represented here in the Philippines by its subsidiary, Acer (Philippines), Inc., posted a 17.2 percent market share against its closest competitor and at the same time obtained a 105.6 percent year-on-year growth rate among the Top 10 PC vendors in the market today.
These overall results also helped catapult the brand to the number two ranking worldwide, according to Gartner as it eventually overtook Dell, the previous number two, by posting a 13.1-percent market share against all the other brands and posted a remarkable 46.8 percent year-on-year growth rate.
According to Acer Philippines, Inc. general manager Manuel Wong, these latest results from Gartner about Acer’s performance in the country prove that indeed, the brand had gone a long way.
“We give credit to the fact that increased awareness about Acer products was due to our products’ superior performance, quality craftsmanship and affordability. We were able to give customers here the perfect alternative to the usual PC fare, and the fact that the steady growth in the number of Acer users proves that we are on the right track,” Wong explained.
Also, he lauded the creative contributions and tireless work of the Acer Philippines team and the support of their trade partners. “We are happy that the long hours spent by the team to come up with exciting ways to generate more awareness about Acer products and implement effective competitive strategies among our target markets were truly worth it. Plus, our partners did their part as well in spreading the good word about Acer. It was truly team effort at work,” he added.
Wong likewise hinted of more good things to come from Acer in the next few months. “We’re excited of what the future holds for us. Definitely, we will not stop here. With this latest development, it only challenged us to strive even harder to reach our goal, which is to be top-of-mind brand not just for Filipino PC users but for the rest of the world.”
