On sabbatical leave

BIZLINKS - Rey Gamboa -

I am away for my annual sabbatical leave. My commentaries on issues of the day will resume on the 11th of June, 2010.

2010 Philippine Collegiate Championship Games

The 2010 Philippine Collegiate Championship games, a nationwide multi-level search for the best collegiate teams in the country, start with the “mother leagues” competitions followed by the regional games. After the completion of the provincial “mother leagues” and the regional championships, the next stage is the qualifying zonal games. These competitions will determine the teams that will join the “Sweet 16” Finals of the 2010 Philippine Collegiate Championship games.

The champions of provincial leagues that hurdle and win the regional competitions will have the chance to advance to the Sweet 16 Finals thru the zonal qualifying games. The top six teams in the zonal qualifying games (four from Luzon-Metro Manila and two from Visayas-Mindanao) will earn seats to the Sweet 16 Finals.

Luzon-Metro Manila Qualifying Zonal Games

Twelve teams will advance to the Luzon-Metro Manila qualifying zonal games. The teams are the North/Central Luzon regional champion, the South Luzon-Bicol regional champion, and the champion teams from the following Metro Manila leagues: NCAA-South, UCAA, UCLAAI, ISAA, NAASCU and MMC. The fifth and sixth placers in the UAAP and NCAA will join the group to complete the 12-team cast.

The Luzon-Metro Manila qualifying zonal games will be held in Manila, with the top four advancing to the Sweet 16 Finals.

Visayas-Mindanao qualifying zonal games

The four Visayas-Mindanao teams that will advance to the Visayas-Mindanao qualifying zonal stage are: the Visayas (excluding Cebu) regional champion, the Mindanao regional champion, and two CESAFI teams (third and fourth).

The top two teams will qualify for the “Sweet 16” Finals, and will join the CESAFI champion and runner-up. The Visayas-Mindanao qualifying zonal games will be held in Cebu City, the acknowledged basketball center in Southern Philippines.
