MANILA, Philippines - The Ayala-led Manila Water Co. Inc. is building a new reservoir in Rizal province to expand the service network and meet the growing water demand in the area.
“The Eastridge Reservoir in Binangonan will ensure the further expansion of the distribution network in Rizal. The project is part of the company’s commitment to supply reliable and safe water supply even to the farthest points of the East Zone,” Manila Water Pasig area business manager Marvin Panday said.
“Residents used to rely on cooperatives and the local government to supply water sourced from deep wells. However, because of the increasing population, people were clamoring for reliable water supply,” Panday said.
Manila Water is currently supplying water to 7,000 households in Binangonan. Once the construction of the additional new 10-million liter (ML) reservoir which is expandable to 20 ML is fully completed, water supply will reach elevated areas of St. Monique, St. Michael Village, Mabuhay Homes, Ynares Village and Madrigal Village.
Aside from the water reservoir, the Eastridge system also covers the laying of new pipelines measuring 250 mm in diameter up to 500 mm in diameter for the expected 13,819 new households that will require water service connection.
As the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage Systems (MWSS), Manila Water provides water and waste water services to 5.6 million people from 23 cities and municipalities of eastern Metro Manila and Rizal Province which include Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Taguig, Pateros and parts of Manila and Quezon City.
This covers more than one million households with more than 680,000 water service connections and 51,000 sewer service connections. Of the more than five million people connected to the water network, 1.6 million people or about 230,000 households belong to the low-income communities.
