MANILA, Philippines - Members and pensioners of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) become part of another major milestone, as they enroll for the UMID-compliant eCard this month.
UMID stands for Unified Multi-Purpose ID (UMID) system, an offshoot of Executive Order 420 which requires all government agencies and government-owned and controlled corporations to streamline and harmonize their identification systems through the use of a unified multi-purpose ID.
The GSIS, a pioneer in the issuance of multi-purpose cards, is the first to adopt the UMID card.
Enrollment starts today, March 15. For the complete schedule, coordinate with any GSIS servicing office or visit the AAO website.
Prior to enrollment, members have to get the enrollment forms from their agency authorized officer (AAO) or through the AAO website. Pensioners can secure the forms at any GSIS office.
With the form on hand, they can go to any enrollment center with two valid IDs or their old eCard Plus.
Enrollees are reminded that during the enrollment process, the GSIS representative will be asking for their tax identification number (TIN) and mobile number.
After enrolling, the GSIS will send the UMID-compliant eCard to the member through the member’s liaison officer (LO). Pensioners will get the new eCard via mail.
Members and pensioners then have to activate their new eCard in any UMID-compliant kiosk located at any GSIS servicing office.
The GSIS is replacing the eCard Plus with the UMID-compliant eCard for free.
According to the GSIS, the UMID-compliant eCard bears a Common Reference Number (CRN), which is linked to the ID numbers of the Social Security System (SSS), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG).
With the CRN, the UMID-compliant eCard also serves as a valid identification card not only for GSIS but also for SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG. It may also be used as a transaction card for the said agencies.
Meanwhile, the GSIS said the features of the GSIS eCard Plus will be retained in the UMID-compliant eCard. The eCard Plus is a multi-purpose card that functions as an ATM card, a transaction card, a debit card, hospitalization and medicine discount card, and an education benefit card, among others.
The GSIS will cease to issue the eCard Plus in light of the new card.
