RP hosts international green industry conference
MANILA, Philippines - Around 1,000 “green” experts in Asia are slated to attend next week’s three-day meeting in Manila that will promote and emphasize ecologically sound business practices amid the so-called creeping climate change.
Conference host Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said distinguished global and regional leaders as well as authorities in environment and business will present their knowledge and experiences on “green practices” in commerce in the forthcoming International Conference on Green Industry in Asia (ICGIA) at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) from Sept. 9-11.
Considered as a landmark event, the conference will be carried out with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission (UNESCO).
According to Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Lito Atienza, the ICGIA will have two high-level roundtable sessions — “Low-Carbon and Resource-Efficient Industrialization: Challenges and Opportunities”; and “Policies and Strategies for Resource-Efficient and Low-Carbon Industries.”
He said there would also be discussions on “shifting gears industrially in order to reduce industrial resource intensity and to create better support services to assist this shift.”
“ICGIA will serve as a platform for industry leaders, economics experts, ecologists, and governments to exchange information and experiences,” the DENR chief noted.
