On a break

BIZLINKS - Rey Gamboa -

I am away for my annual sabbatical leave. My commentaries on issues of the day will resume on the 29th of May 2009.

2009 Philippine Collegiate Championship Games

Good performance at the Philippine Collegiate Championship Games is well rewarded. In last year’s competition, the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) distributed prize awards in the total amount of P1.9 million in the form of scholarship grants, athletic items, team and individual trophies/medals, gift certificates and cash. This is the biggest prize award given in Philippine collegiate competitions.

De La Salle University Green Archers, 2008 Philippine Collegiate Champion, won P500,000 worth of scholarship grants for the school and P400,000 in gift certificates and cash for the team members. Additionally, DLSU is keeping for the year the Manuel V. Pangilinan Perpetual Bronze Sculpture, “Abutin Ang Tagumpay,” symbolic of their collegiate basketball supremacy.

PCCL is providing the same level of prizes in the 2009 Philippine Collegiate Championship Games to be given to the regional champions, the top four finalists, and special awardees.

Bringing competitive games to localities

One of the objectives of PCCL is to conduct games in various localities nationwide involving local teams and teams coming from different areas and leagues. This will promote competition across boundaries and will help in developing players’ talents and skills by expanding their competitive environment.

In line with this objective, PCCL will hold the regional championships, the qualifying zonal games and some of the first round games of the “Sweet 16” finals in several locations. To further support collegiate basketball development at provincial and regional levels, PCCL is giving the leagues at these various locations the opportunity to generate funds by hosting these games, which undoubtedly the local fans will find exciting and highly competitive.
