New Meralco head vows better service

-

Newly appointed Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) president Jose “Ping” de Jesus vowed yesterday to provide better service to the power firm’s customers.

“One area I will focus on is to search for opportunities of improving service to Meralco’s millions of subscribers,” he said.

De Jesus said he would also work on ways to allow the customers to be aware of the company’s undertakings.

“(I want) to bring Meralco closer to, and better understood by its customers,” he said.

He also welcomed the entry of San Miguel Corp. in Meralco.

“In this regard, SMC’s long and successful experience in marketing and customer service would be extremely helpful.

Meralco announced last Monday the nominees of SMC in the Meralco board which include Eduardo Cojuangco Jr. and  Ramon Ang who was also elected vice chairman, former Minister of Justice Estelito Mendoza and Aurora Calderon.

Currently, De Jesus sits as a member of the Investment and Finance Committee of First Philippine Holdings Corp.

He was executive vice president of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) from 1993 to 1999 and chairman of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System from 1992 to 1993.

He was Public Works and Highways Secretary from January 1990 up to February 1993 having served both the Aquino and Ramos administrations.
