Islas Tankers delivers 2-hull tanker to Chevron Philippines

Islas Tankers Shipping Corp. (ITSC), the tanker division of the Magsaysay Transport and Logistics Group, recently delivered the double hull tanker, M/T ‘Panglao Island’, to its charterer, Chevron Philippines Inc., at the Port of Batangas.

In August 2008, Chevron and ITSC signed a deal for the long term charter of M/T ‘Panglao Island’ to transport the former’s “white” petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel and kerosene products to key ports nationwide. M/T ‘Panglao Island’ was built in Japan in 2004. She was designed and constructed to comply with the double hull standard of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as well as the marine safety standard of Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF).

M/T ‘Panglao Island’ prides itself as a “quality ship” and is one of the few Japanese-built double hull tankers operating in the country today.

The vessel is equipped with a computerized cargo control room and a closed cargo system that ensures crew safety during cargo operations.

The vessel is also equipped with classed-approved navigation and communication equipment and a bow thruster for safer navigation and better ship handling and maneuverability.

The commissioning of M/T ‘Panglao Island’ is another milestone for ITSC as this is the second double hull tanker now being operated locally under the Magsaysay Group. ITSC remains in the forefront of bringing modern double hull tankers into the Philippines in line with the company’s policy of operating safer and quality ships for the protection of the environment.
