DOE intensifies energy audit of government agencies

-

The Department of Energy (DOE) is intensifying efforts to complete the energy audit of all government agencies by September this year.

Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes said they hope to finish the audit report after completing the ratings of government offices in the National Capital Region.

Based on the results, the National Dairy Authority (NDA), National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) got the so-called “five-star” rating with the highest score of 98 percent.

The energy audit team said NDA, NAMRIA and PEZA obtained the highest energy audit rating in NCR since they showed impressive electricity and fuel savings.

The Bases Conversion Development Authority, Philippine International Convention Center, National Housing Authority, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas followed with a uniform rating of 97 percent.

The team conducted a total of 149 energy spot checks on government agencies in Metro Manila last April.

In addition to spot checks, the team requires all government agencies to submit documents on fuel and electricity consumption.

They are also required to comply with Administrative Order 183 which mandates all government offices to use energy-efficient lighting systems and implement an energy conservation program.

Energy audits of regional offices are also being conducted. To date, the team has inspected offices in Regions I, III and VI.

The team has also recently completed its spot checks in Cebu City and Tacloban City, where a total of 41 offices were visited.

The team is now in Cagayan de Oro City and is scheduled to visit Davao City next. It is nearing its target of conducting 220 spot checks.   Donnabelle Gatdula
